Did you know that age increases your odds of gum disease? While teenagers and young adults may find themselves with gingivitis, a mild form of gum disease most often as a result of poor oral hygiene and poor diet, this stage is easily reversible with good dental care. Dental cleanings, along with daily brushing AND flossing, can reverse gingivitis.

When you hit your 30s and 40s, gum disease is more common. If gingivitis isn’t managed, it can progress into a more severe form of gum disease known as periodontitis. At this stage, the supportive bone and fibers that hold your teeth in position are damaged by the chronic inflammation of gum pockets are under the gum line, and the teeth loosen and fall out or need removing. Watch out for the following signs of gum disease to seek timely treatment:

–Loose teeth
–Chronic bad breath
–Pain when chewing
–Tooth sensitivity
–Swollen gums
–Red gums
–Gum tenderness
–Bleeding gums
–Receding gums

Early intervention can reverse the condition and save your teeth. Our dental team will ask you about your medical history to determine if you have underlying conditions or risk factors such as smoking, poor diet, genetics, or medications that could increase your susceptibility to gum disease.

We will evaluate the inflammation of your gums and measure any gum pockets. We will offer appropriate treatment, and recommend daily oral hygiene care that will support your treatment.
